Open Education Resources (OER) Series

This semester Libraries and Cultural Resources is partnering with the Taylor Institute to offer the Open Educational Resources (OER) Workshop Series. When incorporated into your teaching, OERs decrease financial barriers and enhance student learning and engagement.

OERs are a hot topic for students at UCalgary and these workshops are catered towards faculty and instructors interested in learning more.

Sessions cover topics such as:

  • Introduction to OER
  • Copyright and Licensing for OER
  • Finding OER
  • Getting Started on Creating OER

Find out more or register for a session

Already familiar with OER? Check out the substantial funding available through the University of Calgary Teaching and Learning Grants to help facilitate the creation of OER projects.

New Interlibrary Loan (ILL) sign-on process

Starting Tuesday, July 20, 2021, the Library's Interlibrary Loan sign-on will be via UCIT's sign-on page.

Note that only those with active IT user accounts will be able to sign on. Users must also have been issued a Unicard.

For those who requested items before the switch, the link in the ILL notification email will not work as expected. Instead, sign on and click “Completed Requests” to view ILL documents.

Journal Citation Reports are available!

It takes six months to compile, but Clarivate's Journal Citation Reports (JCR) 2021 edition is out.

What's new for 2021?

Expanded journal coverage

This year's release includes expanded coverage of the journal literature to reflect the full breadth of research covered in all the journals in the Web of Science Core Collection™ – including journals covered in the Arts & Humanities Citation Index (AHCI)™ and the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI)™.

A new metric

The Journal Citation Indicator is a field-normalized measurement of journal citation impact, providing a single journal-level metric that can be easily interpreted and compared across disciplines. It has been calculated for all journals in the Web of Science Core Collection – including those that do not have a Journal Impact Factor™.

A new visual experience

New graphics improve the user experience with simpler, more direct searching while providing a deeper look into the data – for example, a view of how a journal’s metrics have evolved over time.

"Follow by email" has been discontinued by FeedBurner/Blogger/Google

If you have signed up for email alerts to this blog in the past, this service, previously provided by FeedBurner has been discontinued.

As a reminder, the sign-up looked something like this:

This blog will continue to function, as will its RSS feed, however, you will no longer receive email updates about new (albeit infrequent) posts.

Where are the books?

A quick reminder that books on 3LB are being moved to either the HDL (High Density Library, a storage facility) or the TFDL. Until the TFDL opens, both HDL and TFDL books need to be requested via the catalogue. Here are a couple of examples:

As of July 25, movers were up to the mid-QD call number range in 3LB.
